Men At Work
"Helping Men in marginalized communities reaffirm their Christian Identity, Dignity & Personal Vision"
During the workshops and activities, it was apparent how the different groups were able to contribute valuable sector-specific inputs, covering a myriad of sectors from human trafficking, to former street dwellers, to urban youth and farming groups, etc. The exchange of ideas between the participants concerning different social issues paved the way to gaining different perspectives on how to address issues in ways that are more inclusive and strategic.
As part of post-event activities, there were already concrete steps planned. Some of these were internal to organizations (e.g. strengthening internal systems, conducting men@work activities) while others are more outward-focused (e.g. including in the 2015 plan and budget activities that were directed at men reclaiming their spiritual leadership in families).
The diversity of participants’ experiences deepened the analysis of the different social issues, and they were able to zero in on the commonalities. Thus, a more convergent means of advocacy towards Men and their roles in society was gleaned from the vast technical and managerial capacities of the different organisations. Already, at least two organizations expressed their intention to look at the CCT pilot project (Sikhay sa Paggawa or SIPAG). Several of the suggested action steps require a certain degree of institutionalization, from low-level (e.g. publishing a newsletter) to high-level (e.g. forming a network).
WAY FORWARD
Representatives of the different organizations, bearing the different strategies and learnings from the workshop and activities, will take the helm to get their organization’s buy in towards this initiative. Based on the workshop outputs, they will research and validate the information, and issue reports based on their finding on a strategic (board) and operational (senior to middle managers) level.
There is a need to formulate a blueprint on how to strategically engage the different organizations, and sustain the momentum from the workshop. This will include a unified commitment to obtain the following:
-
A solid network that will communicate the different partners on the action plans and updates on implementation.
-
A viable support mechanism for the organizations who are having difficulty assimilating the initiative in their respective organizations. This would include mentoring and linkage building, as well as exchanging resources and information.
-
A similar activity in 2015 that will assemble the key players of the partner organizations pertaining to this initiative.
